Deborah has been conducting since leaving college. In recent years she has frequently been called upon to be a voice coach and now works with many of the big London Choirs on a regular basis. Other choirs around the UK also call on her services and in 2011 she visited Hong Kong to work with the Bach Choir there. She visited Sydney, Australia in 2013 to work with the choristers in St Mary’s Cathedral and to give 3 successful workshops.
Deborah was a regular visitor to Canterbury for many years where she was alto faculty in the annual Berkshire Choral Festival. She visited Prague with BCF in May 2009 for the Terezin Commemorative Day and worked with them again in Edinburgh in June 2012. She subsequently travelled to Boston, Mass where she conducted highly successful workshops for the Newton Community Chorus and in Lexington.
Deborah was appointed Chorus Master in Feb 2010 for La Traviata at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. She has now prepared many shows for them including two Gala concerts at the Guildhall in London, all of which received excellent reviews for the Chorus. As well as preparing the Chorus, she has occasionally joined the orchestra playing off stage organ (Forza del Destino) on stage organ (Stiffelio) and celeste (Don Quichotte). She also sang the role of Un Musico in their performance of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut.
The Imperial Male Voice Choir was formed in 1979 by Deborah and her many friends from Imperial College Operatic society. In the early years they won many competitions but now they perform several concerts a year for charity. They regularly tour abroad visiting Slovenia in 2006 and southern France in 2008 but most recently made a highly successful concert tour to St Petersburg where they gave three concerts to big audiences including the famous Glinka Capella.
2011 saw Deborah assisting this prestigious choir with their performances of Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis under Sir Colin Davis at the Proms and abroad. She travelled to Palermo in Sicily with them for a final performance that year. She has also taken 3 highly successful workshops with them during the past few years.
Deborah started by conducting Imperial College Operatic Society in The Sorcerer and The Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan after leaving the Royal College of Music. Since then she has conducted many groups including Ware Operatic Society with whom she conducted The Sorcerer, La Périchole (Offenbach) and a concert performance of excerpts of Aida and La Bohème with piano and organ accompaniment. She is delighted to be their president.
Deborah was invited to be the vocal coach to the Oxford Bach Choir by its director Nicholas Cleobury in 2007. Since then she has assisted rehearsals, taken sectionals and given several workshops. In November this year, she will assist Adrian Partington in a Spem in Alium singing day.
Deborah was Associate Chorus Master from 1999 - 2012. During this time she prepared many works for them including Mahler 2 & 8, Verdi Requiem, Bruckner Mass, Berlioz Requiem and the Missa Solemnis for various conductors including Sir Colin Davis, Sir Simon Rattle and Valery Gergiev. She also prepared lighter programmes - in concert with Lesley Garrett and Classic Spectaculars at the Royal Albert Hall.
